PJ Barnum once said “something terrible happens if you don’t promote yourself” so with that in mind I want to share a comment I received on my Wisdom Notes

Hi Colin,

I just finished reading the Wheel of Time Wisdom Notes.  I wanted to ask if you want feedback from me and reflection about it?  I have thoughts and opinions about everything and it’s my job to be forthright with them.  I thought I’d ask what type of reflection you might look for about these notes.
I will tell you  – I skimmed through the whole thing and the excitement was so great that I closed it up.  Then I went back and read it again – feeling the same level of excitement mixed with awe.  Who ARE YOU that you put this together?!
For me personally, almost every single point in this issue resonates with something I’m working on growing in my life right now.  I absolutely love it.  It feels like the best part of graduate work – the stuff one gets to love and be passionate about as they learn something they love.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and will read it a hundred times.  I can see ways to incorporate it into my professional life, personal life, conversation with my husband as we grow together.
A question, am I paying $45.00 a month or for the year.  For some reason I think it was for the year – and, um, you can’t possibly be planning to send 12 of these out for $45.00.  That just isn’t right.  $45.00 isn’t a correct appreciation for this work.  I mean, it’s like a mini book.  Those are the things I can tell you right at this moment.
Let me know if you’d like other thoughts and reflections.
You really have a gift.  I’m honored to be the recipient of it through your work here.
Laura
In fact there are 2 Wisdom Notes per week for 1 year..and I hope that many others can benefit like Laura then my work is moving in the right direction.

Colin

I’m not sure when it happened but I’ve noticed a total feeling of calm within recently, not a Godly type calm but certainly some type of spiritual calm – I’m sure its not enlightenment, an awakening or achieving meaning. But its refreshing…whatever this feeling is.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not floating on hallucianating mushrooms or any other chemical substance – but the serotinin levels in me are delivering a new experience. Is this midlife or the ‘meno-porsche’ as some like to call it? I doubt it – I believe it has much to do with how I choose to live my life. Positively with enthusiasm and accepting things I can not change.

That does not mean I am a pushover by any means – but it does mean I tolerate more, much, much more than I ever did before. It also means I communicate more openly and honestly – with anyone and everyone. My choices in my life have much to do with this – I became a vegetarian and then gradually converted to vegan. I gave up all alcohol and learning to meditate – to think without clutter. I exercise daily and I treat all others equally.

I set about my daily life with enthusiasm – Emerson said “Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” Enthusiasm. One of my absolute favorite words. Did you know that it comes from the Greek enthous “possessed by a god” (theos (God) and en (within))  So, when you’re enthusiastic, your God (or as I prefer my spirital goodness) is within you. And, equally important, when you are NOT enthusiastic, your goodness has left you.

People ask me – “Colin do you ever get angry, because I can’t imagine it” – sure things upset me, but anger and frustration are negative emotions that become a vicious circle. Learning to accept is moving towards another level – I like this feeling. It is without question one of the most enjoyable parts of my life and I hope that I am able to pass on much of my enthusiasm to all I meet and they can also benefit in their lives.

So what have I stopped doing, well in addition to my choice of diet, alcohol – the one biggest lesson I have learnt is not to blame others – I leave you with a great quote from Xi Zhi “You should examine yourself daily, if you find faults, you should correct them. When you find none, you should try even harder’ Give it a try and I hope that you find the inner peace I have.

I read business books avidly seeking the knowledge that will help me to help my clients achieve their potential. I only recently came across the 12 Factors of Business Success although it was published in 2007. Yet the wisdom in the covers made me immediately want to read it a second time which I did– marking up sentence after sentence.

A scattered mind

When water is sprinkled it can’t move forcefully; when the same amount of water is channelled, its energy or force increases. Our mind is scattered, and yet by nature, it has the capacity for knowledge. But because it is so scattered, its effect is very limited. It is necessary to focus clearly to channelise the mind on one purpose. As interpreted from The Dalai Lama.

Now what?

To Reach a Port we must Sail.   Sail, Not tie at anchor.   Sail, not drift – Roosevelt.

Are you drifting or sailing?

If you are drifting along then I can help you reignite the passion within. Contact me for an initial courtesy 30 minute motivation session to discover how I can help you ‘sail’.

Remember the words of Emerson, “Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”

Enthusiasm. One of my absolute favourite words.

Did you know that it comes from the Greek “enthous” which means “possessed by a god” (theos – God) and en (within))? God here is the spiritual good not necessarily the religious God.

So, when you’re enthusiastic, goodness is within you. And, equally important, as you will no doubt discover when you are NOT enthusiastic, your inner God has left the building that is you. (Note: – My own understanding of how “spiritual” you are has nothing to do with what you believe but everything to do with your state of consciousness. This, in turn, determines how you act in the world and interact with others)

Really going for it

I’ve just finished writing one book and a good friend & successful author is now reviewing it. So far comments are extremely encouraging. Last week I started writing my second manuscript and the idea has filled me with passion – its consuming. It’s based on how to lead your life deep rooted with ancient wisdom. The idea hit me like a steam roller – I’ve linked the ancient wisdom with one of the most popular books on leadership in recent years – I think it was the missing link between how to become a leader (in that particular best selling book).

Tom Morris who has become one of the most active public philosophers in the world due to his unusual ability to bring the greatest wisdom of the past into the challenges of the present once said to me “Paradox is always the sign you’re in the neighborhood of deep truth”.

I think I have discovered that truth and I am feeling the passion rise daily within me. One of the huge mistakes people make is that they try to force an interest on themselves. You don’t choose your passions; your passions choose you. When you feel that passion make sure that you take hold of it and make the most of whatever it is telling you.
